The spine problems that cause back pain only aren’t that much different from those that cause leg symptoms. What differs is how we treat the different problems.
Generally speaking, the vast majority of spine problems are due to degenerative changes that are a natural part of aging. Some folks have a lot of pain with minimal change while others have extensive changes but have very little pain. That is what makes this specialty challenging for us spine specialists.
It may seem like a silly question for a spine surgeon to ask but believe it or not some people with spine problems don’t have back pain and only have leg pain and, of course some people have both back and leg pain. This section deals with those of you who have only back pain.
